Tune of the Week for 03/10/08 -- X-Sinner, No Way In

That's pretty good! They sound almost exactly like Judas Priest, but the drums are really strong, and the guitar's not half bad.
That's actually pretty good for white metal... it has that early Def Leppard vibe going. Sounds a lot like their High 'n Dry album. I like the guitar tone... the drums are a little over the top, but what 80's hair metal bad didn't do that? Solid tune though. It almost sounds like the singer is trying to mimic either Brian Johnson of AC/DC or Tom Keifer of Cinderella at the upper range.
They were/are one of the better bands from that genre.
Of course I wanted to know what you thought of it. My band in high school tried to mimic this sound to some degree, but we weren't very successful. I've been listening to a lot of OverKill these days. Have you heard much of them?
Yeah, I remember OverKill a little bit... thrash band from the late 80's with the florescent green album covers, right? They had those blindingly fast riffs and the wicked double-bass. Unless I'm mis-remembering, I never cared much for the singer... he seemed to have this monotonous kind of shout for the choruses. Back in the day I wasn't really into thrash at all... even Metallica and Megadeth didn't have much appeal. I typically stopped when I got to "metal" -- stuff like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. AC/DC was an eye-opener for me too. I just didn''t like all the constant screaming. Maybe I just haven't listened to enough thrash. I dunno. I have a hard time hearing the hook or the melody in those songs. And because of that they're kind of forgettable to me. They've got tons of aggression and emotion though. Thrash has grown on me a little since my early days... but honestly, it's still probably not the first thing I reach for. Depends on my mood. I've actually been listening to Ride the Lightening and Master of Puppets lately and starting to appreciate stuff like that again.
I recently listened through Kill 'Em All for the first time in a while, and I still couldn't get over how enjoyable a listen it is.
